We Do Not Necessarily Need To Have Roommates To Save On Rent

There is a solid request of people wanting to travel and stay in comfortable places, but cheap at the same time. Many tourists have found out that renting a spare room from a private home owner is the most affordable way to spend their nights in a decent place.

There are several websites that allow private homes/apartments owners to advertise their spare room for free, and this trend is clearly gaining importance. Some websites are very specialized into this field and they even let home owners look over tourists profiles and contact them privately. Some other websites have also a booking calendar system that allows tourists to indirectly reserve a room, pay a security deposit and be able to contact the owner even if they don't speak the same language.

Tourists generally pay much more than what a roommate pays for the same bedroom. A owner of a double bedroom in a cottage in Galveston TX, for example, may ask to be paid about 40 dollars per night, which in total is 1,200 dollars per month. On the other hand, a roommate would never pay that price per month in the same area at all.

Also, there are other three main benefits from renting a bedroom to a tourist. First of all, there is no need to write a contract that binds a person to the property for a certain time frame, with consequent change of roommate residency address, and risking to have many other problems that suddenly come up when deciding to relocate a stranger in your home. Conversely, a tourist will just temporarily stay in your bedroom for about one or two weeks, when it is not for just a weekend. Second, the owner is in total control of the property. It will just be necessary to make an inventory of the objects that are present in the apartment, and that will be used to make tourists pay for the cost of things they break or steal. Third, owners may have the chance to be in contact with people from different cultures and view the world from a different prospective.

Some websites are also designed for gay home owners looking for gay tourists to stay in their properties during vacations, and this seems to have gained new slices in the real estate market and good feedbacks from most home owners in general. Still, Owners can post a profile of their apartment for free and receive reservations from tourists, by paying a security deposit on-line using Paypal. Every reservation is recorder and each user receives a feedback after the reservation is completed.

These website founders claim they have opened a new trend and a new source of income especially for families with financial difficulties.
